The Government industry encompasses a wide range of city and state public and government buildings with extensive requirements for mobile coverage.  The example below highlights one of ADC’s wireless solutions for these venues.

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) has been a leader in science and engineering research for 75 years. Located on a 200-acre site in the hills above the University of California's Berkeley campus and overlooking San Francisco Bay, Berkeley Lab is the oldest of the U.S. Department of Energy's National Laboratories. LBNL’s main site now consists of more than 100 buildings where some 3,800 research, engineering, student, and administrative personnel conduct unclassified scientific research in a variety of disciplines. The lab’s research areas include fundamental studies of the universe, quantitative biology, nanoscience, new energy systems and environmental solutions, and the use of integrated scientific computing as a tool for discovery. The Lab also is home to four DOE national user facilities.

The problem is that the hill-and-valley topography of the site leads to inconsistent and sometimes nonexistent mobile coverage: buildings on hilltops receive good coverage, while buildings located in the valleys and sometimes built into hillsides receive little or no coverage. A large campus, many of the employees have offices in one location and then spend time in labs at another location, so mobile phones have become the primary method of communication.

There has been a steady rise in requirements for buildings to have adequate wireless services whether they are local, state, or federal facilities.  There also has been an increase in community legislation mandating communications infrastructure in new or existing public spaces.  Because these facilities are generally large and built with the concrete construction materials, InterReach in-building DAS solutions are best suited to deliver mobile voice and data throughout the venue.  InterReach solutions, which offer alarm and management systems, are flexible and scalable to support a range of service providers and public safety coverage.
